Dig A Pony arrived in Yarraville in December 2009. Owners Mike & Hannah Bacarella wanted to create a place they would enjoy – someplace welcoming, somewhere to enjoy good food, good wine, good music & great friends, in a relaxed ambient atmosphere.
‘Dig A Pony’ is inspired by the name of a classic, but obscure, song by The Beatles – featured on their final album ‘Let It Be’. Written by John Lennon, Dig A Pony (the song) is known as a whimsical, lyrically nonsensical and eclectic list of rhyming sentences. It’s this similar theme that has inspired the bar decor and underlying tribute at the altar of rock music.
Creatively designed with lamps, fittings and timber features and bars, the space is filled with various styles of seating and leather lounges, antique chairs, low stools, bar stools, regal armchairs and rustic timber communal tables – so you’ll be sure to find your fit.
Our menu is Mediterranean Tapas, with authentic recipes from Spain, Italy, Greece, Morocco and France. It’s designed to be shared, enjoyed and grazed.
In the Spanish Tapas tradition, the serving is designed to encourage conversation because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal set before them. Great quality tapas using fresh produce and vibrant spices, flavours and taste is integral to provide a great tapas experience.

We source local wines from Australia’s best wine-growing regions, including Margaret River (W.A), Coonawarra, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley (S.A), Gippsland, Bendigo, Yarra Valley (VIC) and International favourites from Marlborough and Central Otago (New Zealand) plus specially chosen table wines, sherries and dessert wines from Yecla, Alicante, Jerez and Rioja (Spain) and popular Italian regions.
With a fabulous selection of Cocktails, Sparking, Champagne and selected international and local boutique craft beers, just ask our staff to mix your favourite drink.
